The Vegan Carnivore crew recently visited Montreal’s landmark vegan restaurant Aux Vivres to chat with owners Michael and Liam Makhan about their core values and what kinds of people frequent the St. Laurent street establishment…which nowadays, is pretty much everybody from firefighters to young professionals and families of all ages.
We provide both loyal customers and curious non-vegans and vegans alike with an insight into how some of their many popular dishes are made, from the renowned BLT (featuring coconut smoked simulated bacon), to the hearty and almost meaty portobello burger, to the végé-pâté sandwich on homemade chapati bread.
You’ll also notice longtime manager Charles Garant tirelessly working the floor, showing off his expert barista skills, serving Vegan Carnivore host Jason Rockman his BLT for the episode.
We also profile something else Aux Vivres are famous for, and an experience that has become somewhat of a weekend ritual for many Montrealers…their famous brunch menu. See how their fluffy waffles are made, black beans, crispy polenta, and tofu scramble all come flying out of the kitchen, piping hot and ready to satisfy.
Happy Holidays from Vegan Carnivore and Aux Vivres!
