Christmas Holiday Vegan Turkey Feast

“I’m just a good Jewish girl!” says renowned creator of all things vegan and kosher, Gigi Cohen, while preparing a traditional and completely vegan Christmas feast for a call center that employs over 400 staff. And Vegan Carnivore was there to cover it all.

Our host Jason Rockman, a big fan of wholesome vegan foods and simulated meat, reacts in near disbelief as if he saw Santa himself upon sampling the vegan turkey shavings that Gigi was preparing for the upcoming Xmas chowdown. And it was love at first site from then on, as we followed Gigi from the kitchen into the serving hall to get a glimpse of the first of many vegan company lunches that will happen in 2013 and beyond.

We talk with Gigi about her NDG-based vegan takeout cafe, www.cafejuicylotus.com, and her recent fundraising cookbook www.nourishingfriends.com, which is receiving rave reviews both in Montreal and beyond. Enjoy this glimpse into the world of Vegan Carnivore and its closest friends, and keep checking back every month for new cool events and companies that we’ll be featuring.

Vegan Carnivore visits Montreal Restaurant Aux Vivres

The Vegan Carnivore crew recently visited Montreal’s landmark vegan restaurant Aux Vivres to chat with owners Michael and Liam Makhan about their core values and what kinds of people frequent the St. Laurent street establishment…which nowadays, is pretty much everybody from firefighters to young professionals and families of all ages.

We provide both loyal customers and curious non-vegans and vegans alike with an insight into how some of their many popular dishes are made, from the renowned BLT (featuring coconut smoked simulated bacon), to the hearty and almost meaty portobello burger, to the végé-pâté sandwich on homemade chapati bread.

You’ll also notice longtime manager Charles Garant tirelessly working the floor, showing off his expert barista skills, serving Vegan Carnivore host Jason Rockman his BLT for the episode.

We also profile something else Aux Vivres are famous for, and an experience that has become somewhat of a weekend ritual for many Montrealers…their famous brunch menu. See how their fluffy waffles are made, black beans, crispy polenta, and tofu scramble all come flying out of the kitchen, piping hot and ready to satisfy.

Happy Holidays from Vegan Carnivore and Aux Vivres!
