Last night on SNL, pop icon and former Nsync member Justin Timberlake officially thrust the vegan and vegetarian lifestyle into the mainstream spotlight with the skit “Veganville.” In this 5-minute long, pro-vegan comedic sketch, Timberlake faces off against a portly butcher from the “Sausage Depot,” countering every attempt by the pseudo-Italian purveyor of cured meats to promote his carcinogenic and colon-clogging products with fresh, animated renditions of popular current pop hits, and health-oriented, pro-vegan lyrics.
Even attempts by the butcher to persuade Timberlake into trying just one bite, and that he’d remember how good a salami is, were foiled by witty comebacks like “Genoa thanks…I get all I need from what grows straight from the dirt…check it. Carne Asada.”
Tofu Timberlake then cautions Mr. Sausage that “If you knew how meat was raised, you wouldn’t eat it,” which gets him reminiscing about how cute the animals were from the classic 90′s hit film Babe. This causes Mr. Meat to begin crying, as he confronts the connection between cured meats and peaceful farm animals. Tofu Timberlake is right there to console him, and reassure him that it’s never too late to do the right thing.
The viral song Harlem Shake suddenly kicks in, with new lyrics “Tofu Burritas” and “Drink a vegan shake” into the mass dance-off.
